Somewhere in your city, right now, a homeowner is typing "interior designers near me" or "3BHK interior design cost" into Google. They have already decided they need help. Google Ads lets your firm appear at that exact moment. That is a different, and in some ways simpler, job than Meta ads: you are not creating demand, you are capturing it.
It is also a job that punishes carelessness, because you pay for every click and the wrong clicks are expensive. This guide covers what has to be right.
Search intent: the thing you are actually buying
Every search has an intent behind it, and interior design searches range from "hire someone now" to "show me pictures". The whole discipline of Google Ads for interior designers is bidding on the first kind and refusing the second.
| Intent | Examples | Bid? |
|---|---|---|
| Hiring | interior designers in [city], best interior design firm [area], interior designer for villa | Yes, core |
| Project-specific | 3BHK interior design [city], full home interiors [area], kitchen interior designers | Yes, with matching pages |
| Cost research | interior design cost 3BHK, interior designer charges per sq ft | Carefully, with budget qualification |
| Inspiration | bedroom design ideas, false ceiling designs, modular kitchen photos | No |
| Jobs, courses, DIY | interior design course, interior designer salary, how to design my own home | No, add as negatives |
Google versus Meta: different jobs
Google reaches people who are searching. Intent is high, volume is limited by how many people search each month in your city, and cost per click for hiring-intent terms can be significant. Meta reaches people who were not searching yet, earlier in the decision. Volume is higher and qualification does more work. Most firms with a working system run both, weighted by budget and results. See Meta ads for interior designers for the other side.
Campaign structure
- By intent and project type. Separate ad groups for general hiring terms, apartment terms, villa terms and renovation terms, so each can have its own ad copy and landing page.
- Location targeting that matches reality. Your actual service area, not a radius that includes places you would never take a project. Add locality names to keywords where homeowners use them.
- Negative keywords, maintained weekly. Jobs, courses, salary, software, DIY, photos, ideas, and any locality you do not serve. Review the search terms report every week and add to the list.
- Search first. Other campaign types can be tested later, only where search data supports it, and never as a way to inflate lead counts.
The landing page: answer the search
A homeowner who searched for villa interiors should land on a page about villa interiors, with villa work, a villa-appropriate budget range and the qualifying questions. Sending everyone to the homepage is the most common and most expensive mistake in interior design PPC. Message match between the search, the ad and the page is the biggest single lever you have. See landing pages for interior designers.
Qualification: intent is not budget
Google traffic is high intent, but a search for "interior designers in [city]" comes from homeowners at every budget. The page and the first WhatsApp exchange should capture budget range, timeline, location and scope so that consultations are offered only where there is a fit. This is the same qualification as any other channel, and it matters just as much here.
Conversion tracking: measure the right event
Track form submissions and WhatsApp starts as conversions. Where the setup allows, feed qualified-lead and consultation-booked events back into Google as well, so the account can optimise towards the outcome you actually want. An account that optimises for "any form submission" will find you the cheapest form submissions, which is not the same thing.
Lead quality: review search terms and outcomes together
Once a month, sit the search terms report next to the CRM. Which keywords produced enquiries that became consultations? Which produced enquiries that went nowhere? Move budget towards the first group. Add the second group to negatives or reduce bids. This loop is where a Google Ads account gets better over time, and it only works if the CRM records the source of each enquiry.
Consultation tracking: from click to calendar to proposal
Every enquiry should keep its campaign and keyword through the pipeline. The monthly report then shows, per campaign, how many enquiries were qualified, how many consultations were booked, how many proposals went out and what was won. That report, not the click count, is what tells you whether Google Ads is working for your firm.
What to expect
Cost per click and cost per lead vary widely by city, by keyword and by how premium your positioning is, so be suspicious of anyone who quotes you a number before they have seen your market. What you can control is the share of clicks that become qualified enquiries and the share of those that become consultations. Those two ratios are where the work is.
